Question: In snapdragon which type of gene interaction is seen....
In snapdragon which type of gene interaction is seen.
Solution
Snapdragon plant flowers resemble the face of the dragon and its name is Antirrhinum majus. It is used as a model organism to study genetics, this genus shows typical incomplete dominance by the red allele with anthocyanin. When it crossed with the different colour flower of snapdragon then it shows an intermediate colour.
Complete answer:
Snapdragon flowers show incomplete dominance as four o clock plants show, in incomplete dominance, the allele show inter-allelic interaction, in which two alleles interact will produce new different colour and phenotype traits. This thing happens when the dominant allele is not able to produce proper full expression
In homozygous condition, the plant produces two different colours bearing flowering plants such as red(RR) and white(rr). When they cross take place in between, then F1 generation produces new phenotype colour plants such as (Rr) which give purple colour to the flower. This purple colour flower arises due to heterogeneous condition (Rr) allele, in which Dominant Allele (R) is not able to produce full red expression in glower colour. (r) allele does not produce any colour. When F1 generations cross each other, they produce three different colour flowers such as red, purple and white with (1:2:1) ratio.
It shows the incomplete dominance of the plant, which is the exceptional case of genetics, which is not studied by Mendel.
Note: Apart from incomplete dominance, codominance is also shown in different characters in which two different individuals with homozygous alleles will mate then it will produce different characters. In which both alleles express individually. Example:- red hair and white hair in cattle.
