In early winter mornings, we can see drops of water on the blades of grass. This is because of:
(A) photosynthesis
(B) transpiration
(C) condensation
(D) water cycle
Solution
Hint : Out of these options it is the process in which the physical state of matter changes from the gaseous phase into the liquid phase. It is the opposite of the evaporation reaction. It is defined to include those reactions in which two molecules are joined with loss of water. It involves the removal of heat from a system in such a manner that vapour is converted into liquid state.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
Dew drops are formed due to the process of condensation of water vapors. The air around us contains water vapors which we call as moisture or humidity. Hot air contains more moisture as compared to that of cold air. During the night when the hot air comes into contact with the cold surface, water vapor present in it condenses on the cold surface in the form of droplets. These tiny drops of water are called dew drops. In early morning especially in winter the temperature is less which means that the air is cool. At this temperature air cannot hold all the moisture in it. The excess moisture condenses on the cool surface for example on things like leaves, grass, car glasses in the form of dew drops. Hence we are able to see dew drops on winter morning.
Condensation of water happens when water changes its state from gaseous state to liquid or crystal shape. At high pressure and low temperatures any gas can condense. The process of condensation can happen at any temperature as long as the pressure of the liquid state of the gas is less than that of the pressure of the condensing gas.
Therefore in early winter mornings, we can see drops of water on the blades of grass. This is because of condensation.
Hence we can say that option C is the correct answer.
Note :
The molecules in the matter slows down during the process of condensation because the heat energy is being taken away, which causes a change within the three states of matter, that is it changes the matter into the solid-state. A condensation reaction is said to be a chemical reaction in which two molecules combine to form a larger one and a molecule of water.
