In amorphophallus and colocasia, vegetative reproduction is carried out through
A. Rhizome
B. Bulbils
C. Corms
D. Offsets

Explanation

Solution

The vegetative reproduction can be defined as a kind of asexual reproduction which involves growth of plant structures through vegetative propgules. It is carried out by rhizomes, bulbils, Corms and offsets.

Complete answer:
Vegetative propagation-
(vegetative reproduction) is the formation of new plants from vegetative units or propagules such as buds, tubers, rhizomes, etc which is also called as asexual reproduction of the organism. This method produces a large number of progeny or population of clones in a very short time.
It preserves purity, resistance and good qualities of race/ variety indefinitely as present in their parental character.
Vegetative propagation is of two types, I.e.
Natural & horticultural(artificial).
(i) Corms. Corms are unbranched swollen underground stems having circular or spherical nodes that have buds for growth of daughter plants.
e.g., Amorphophallus (Zamikand), Colocasia,Crocus etc

(ii) Rhizomes. Rhizomes are main underground stems which store food for perennation during the unfavourable condition, so it functions as storing steam. These have buds for the formation of new aerial shoots during favourable conditions. Rhizomes take part in vegetative propagation due to these buds present in the stem
eg. Banana, Ginger, Turmeric, Adiantum.

(iii) Bulbils- These are multicellular fleshy buds that take part in vegetative propagation functioning as storage.
e.g., Oxalis, Agave, Pineapple (Ananas), Dioscorea (Yam), Chlorophytum.
In Agave, bulbils are modified asexual floral buds that develop on the flowering axis. They remain attached to the floral axis and germinate in favourable conditions. Thus Agave (century plant) shows vegetative reproduction from reproductive organs by floral buds. Bulbils are axillary in case of Dioscorea. They are borne over the base of the fleshy root in case of oxalis.

(iv) Offsets-these are the stem modifications in which one internode long runners that occur in some aquatic plants. Breaking of offsets helps in vegetative propagation.
e.g., Eichhornia (Water Hyacinth), Pistia (Water Lettuce).

Hence, the correct answer is option (C).

Note: Generally, Rhizomes have a common example i.e. ginger, offsets have a common example i.e. eichornia, bulbils have a common example i.e. agave and corn have a common example i.e. Amorphophallus.
