If x gm is the mass of NaHC2O4 required to neutralise 100 ml of 0.2 (M) NaOH and y gm that required to reduce 100 ml of 0.02 (M) KMnO4 in acidic medium, then

A

x = y

B

2x = y

C

x = 4y

D

4x = y

Answer

x = 4y

Explanation

Solution

Let mol wt. of NaHC2O4 = M

\ xM\frac{x}{M} = 100 × 0.2 × 10–3 = 20 × 10–3 ------(I)

25\frac{2}{5}×yM\frac{y}{M} = 100 × 0.02 ×10–3 = 2 × 10–3 ------II)

Dividing equation (I) by equation (II)

52\frac{5}{2}× xy\frac{x}{y} = 10

or x = 4y
