How many times did you fall ill in the last one year? What were the illnesses?
a) Think of one change you could make in your habits in order to avoid any of/ most of the above illnesses.
b) Think of one change you would wish for in your surroundings in order to avoid any of/ most of the above illnesses.
Solution
Illness is the state of feeling physically or emotionally unwell or sick. Illness is different from having or suffering from a disease.
An illness can last for a long time or a short time and its effects can be serious or not serious.
Illness can not be passed from one person to another but disease is an illness caused by bacteria or an infection hence it can be passed from one person to another person.
Complete answer:
Symptoms of illness are often not directly the result of infection, but a collection of evolved responses – sickness behaviour of the body – that helps clear infection and promote recovery. Such aspects of illness can include lethargy, depression, loss of appetite, sleepiness and inability to concentrate
Last year I felt sick five times. The illnesses were typhoid, dysentery, viral fever.
Typhoid is a bacterial infection caused due to a specific type of Salmonella. Symptoms may vary from mild to severe and usually begin 6 to 30 days after exposure. It causes high fever accompanied by weakness, abdominal pain, constipation, headaches and mild vomiting.
Dysentery is an intestinal infection that causes severe diarrhoea with blood. Symptoms may include fever, abdominal pain and a feeling of incomplete defecation.
Viral fever to the condition where viral infections are associated with elevation of body temperature. Symptoms include chills, sweating, dehydration, muscle aches, a feeling of weakness.
One change in habit that would avoid the illness is drinking safe and pure filtered / boiled water and avoid eating uncovered food because unhygienic food and water cause infections.
One change in the surroundings to avoid diseases is that there should be no accumulation of garbage and stagnant water in the surroundings because the accumulated garbage gives rise to different bacteria which cause diseases.
Note: To avoid physical and mental illness we should exercise daily and take appropriate amounts of minerals in our food on daily doses. Hygienic surroundings are the basic thing to live a disease free life.
