Question

Mathematics Question on nth Term of an AP

How many multiples of 4 lie between 10 and 250?

Answer

First multiple of 44 that is greater than 1010 is 1212. Next will be 1616.
Therefore, 12,16,20,24,.12, 16, 20, 24, ….
All these are divisible by 44 and thus, all these are terms of an A.P. with first term as 1212 and common difference is 44.
When we divide 250250 by 44, the remainder will be 22.
Therefore, 2502=248250 − 2 = 248 is divisible by 44.
The series is as follows.
12,16,20,24,,24812, 16, 20, 24, …, 248
Let 248248 be the nth term of this A.P.
a=12a = 12
d=4d = 4
an=248a_n = 248
an=a+(n1)da_n = a + (n-1)d
248=12+(n1)4248 = 12 + (n-1)4
2364=n1\frac {236}{4} = n-1
59=n159 = n-1
n=60n = 60

Therefore, there are 6060 multiples of 44 between 1010 and 250250.
