Islets of Langerhans was discovered by Paul Langerhans (1869)(1869). It is a form of an endocrine part. Each islets of Langerhans contains hundreds of small cells and several blood capillaries and sinusoids. Its cells are distinguished into four types [a] Alpha or AA cells constitute about 15%15\% of pancreatic islet cells and secrete glucagon. [b] Beta or BB cells constitute about 80%80\% of pancreatic islet cells and secrete insulin. [c] Delta or DD cells constitute about 5%5\% of pancreatic islet cells and secrete somatostatin. [d] FF cells constitute the remainder of pancreatic islet cells and secrete pancreatic polypeptide.
