How many bones are present in the skeleton of man?
Solution
In a manner the human skeleton is designed in which it usually is well adapted for the functions which it must perform. The support, protection, movement or mineral storage, and the formation of the blood cells are the functions of the bones that includes.
Complete answer:
The adult human skeleton generally consists of the 206 named bones. In two divisions, two bones can be grouped: the axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton. In the axial skeleton the 80 bones are present and then form the vertical axis of the body. These include the bones of the head, vertebral column, ribs and the breast bone or the sternum. As well as the free appendages, and their attachments with the axial skeleton the appendicular skeleton generally consists of the 126 bones. The free appendages are the upper and the lower extremities, or the limbs and their attachments which are usually called the gridles. Bone issues are generally of two types: one is compact and the other is spongy. The closely packed osteons or the Haversian system compact bone normally consists. Spongy bones usually have the plates of bones which is called Trabeculae, around irregular spaces that contain red bone marrow. This process for bone formation is known as Osteogenesis. In the bone formation and remodelling three types of cells, osteoblast, osteocytes and the osteoclasts are involved. The connective tissue membranes are usually replaced by the bones, in intramembranous ossification. This process also consists of the flat bones of the skull. Most of the bones are then formed in this manner.
So, the total number of bones are 206 present in the skeleton of man.
Note:
Bones tissue gets replaced by the hyaline cartilage models, in the endochondral ossification. At the epiphyseal bones generally grow in the length between the diaphysis and the epiphysis. When the epiphyseal plates completely ossify, bones then no longer increase in length.
