Question

Question: How is hair formed?...

How is hair formed?

Explanation

Solution

Hair is a simple structure present on the external surface of the body, it has many functions as it protects the body from dust and particles and provides warm temperature to the body and hair consists of three layers as well as three parts itself.

Complete answer:
Hair is formed by the cells which multiply to form rod-like tissue at the base of the root in the skin and this process starts and then the rod-like tissue moves upward to the outer direction of the skin as new cells are forming continuously beneath them.

Human hair consists of three parts:
1)The hair shaft – it is the part that sticks out in the upward direction from the skin surface.
2)The root – it is the part present at the base of the hair and it is a soft and thickened bulb-like structure.
3)The follicle – it is the part in the skin and sac-like structure that gives rise to hair with the help of follicle cells.

The actual growth happens at the bottom of the follicle which is known as the papilla, an artery is present in the papilla which helps in the nourishment of the root of the hair as a hardened structure is made by multiplication of the cells which is known as keratin and the process is known as keratinization.

Human hair has three layers:
1)The medulla – is the soft part and present in the center of the hair.
2)The cortex – is the main part that surrounds the medulla.
3)The cuticle – it is the outer part of the hair and protects the shaft.
Note: Hair grows all over the human body except feet, palms of the hand, and the lips. Growth of the hair is faster in the summer season than in winters and also the growth is slower during the night than day.
