Question
Question: How does the respiratory system depend on the muscular system?...
How does the respiratory system depend on the muscular system?
Solution
Different organs that are involved in similar functions in the body makes the organ system that works together for carrying out respiration, breathing, excretion, circulation, etc.
Complete answer:
1)The muscular system and the respiratory system are dependent on each other for their function and although they are responsible for carrying out different functions in the human body but still the muscular and respiratory systems cannot function efficiently in the absence of the other system.
2)The respiratory system starts from the nostrils and it includes the nasal passage, pharynx, lungs, bronchioles, alveoli, etc. The entire respiratory system is involved in the exchange of gases that is termed as respiration.
3)Respiration involves two processes that are inhalation and exhalation of gases.
4)In the process of inhalation the diaphragm contracts and the other muscles are also involved in increasing the volume of the lungs due to which the pressure inside the lungs falls and the gas enters the lungs due to the low pressure. Whereas in the exhalation process, the diaphragm goes back to its original position and the volume of the lungs decreases, and the pressure increases within the lungs that forces the gases out of the lungs.
5)Therefore muscular regulation is very necessary to regulate the respiratory process.
Note: Not only the respiratory system is dependent on the muscular system but the muscular system is also dependant on the respiratory system as the respiratory system provides energy to the cells and the muscles that help in the movement of cells and locomotion and also some impure gases from the muscles are removed out of the body through respiration.
