In boys, the growth spurt occurs during puberty but the rate of growth can vary. The boys tend to grow around 3 inches per year during this period. During the period of puberty, the boys reach about maximum of their adult height. They tend to grow at a much faster rate than the girls.
In girls, the growth spurt usually starts from about 10 to 12 years. The height of girls increases maximum in this period but after this period, they only grow to about 1 to 2 inches more in a year or so. The maximum height which is the actual adult height in females are reached in this period and only which continues up to 16 years of age. However, the boys continue to grow up to 18 years of age and are in general taller in height than the girls.
