Sun is the source of energy, the light and heat which we receive from the sun in terms of energy is called solar energy. Sun plays a vital role in providing us with the basic elements of Earth.

The movement of gas particles, air which is caused by the difference between air pressure and the atmospheric pressure is called as Wind. Anything in motion moves from higher potential to the lower potential, similarly air moves from higher pressure to lower pressure. Higher the difference in pressure, faster the particles of air moves.
Every source of energy on Earth is due to the Sun, wind is one of them. When the sunlight reaches Earth, the surface of the Earth absorbs this light and changes to heat energy.
In a thermal transfer, convection takes place only in liquid and in gas. This convection process produces the wind. When the light energy from the Sun changes to the heat energy on the surface of the Earth, the air particles above the Earth’s surface get warm and rise up, replacing with cooler air particles. This happens because as the air particles get warm, their density decreases. Hence, convection current takes place.
Such convection current is the horizontal movement on the Earth’s surface. The difference between the pressures causes this movement of the air particles that gives rise to wind.
