How do you appreciate the working of ciliary muscles in the eye?
Solution
Ciliary muscles are very important components of eye by which focal length of eye lens can be changed according to the position of an object. The working and uses of ciliary muscles with other components of the eye will be discussed below.
Complete Step by step solution:
We know that the human eye can contract or relax muscles, the focal length of the eye lens can be changed and this ability is known as accommodation and it is done by ciliary muscles.
For objects closer to the eye or nearby objects, ciliary muscles can contract or squeeze the eye lens which results in increasing the radius of curvature of the lens corresponding to shorter focal length. But for the distant objects which are far away from the eye lens, the eye can accommodate according to distance by which ciliary muscles can relax and lens returns into a flatter shape causing a decrease in radius of curvature which corresponds to longer focal length.
Accommodation by ciliary muscles occurs instantaneously causing no noticeable delay from changing focus from an object at far distance to a nearby object so it’s quite an appreciative thing for ciliary muscle to work on accommodation without any interruption.
Note:
When parallel rays coming in to the eye from a distant object ciliary muscles accommodate lens accordingly so focal length increases and image is formed on retina and similarly for closer object focal length will decrease and light rays will fall on retina an form an image by sending a signal from sensitive cell to brain via optic nerve to interpret an image.
