How do plants reduce the amount of water lost through transpiration?

Explanation

Solution

Transpiration is as important as the other processes carried by the plants. Transpiration is a process where the roots of the plants take up the water present in the soil then the water is released in the form of gas that is water vapor. Water maintenance should be proper, no matter if the amount of water is more than required or less than required it affects the proper growing of the plant.

Complete answer:
Out of the many processes studied transpiration is a very important process observed in plants. There are mainly two reasons for transpiration: one of them is cooling the plant and maintaining the required temperature. Plants may also carry the process of transcription when they have excess water. Transpiration also pumps up the water and requires minerals to the leaves for the process of photosynthesis. The only disadvantage of transpiration is that it sometimes leads to excess of water loss, due to this it should be properly controlled.
As already discussed earlier transpiration should be in a controlled manner when the plants are in a condition of drought. To overcome these issues few plants are developed with fewer stomata opening, this reduces the amount of transpiration and hence limits the water loss.
The absorption and transpiration are two complementary processes which work in a cyclic manner. Firstly, the water is absorbed from the surrounding soil from the roots, now this water needs to be distributed to all the parts of the plant for photosynthesis, but we also know that the roots are at the bottom so the water is transported by upward movement that is against gravitational pull. After the water is used the excess of water is given out in the form of gases from different parts of the plants like the leaves, barks and stems.

Note: In case of drought, due to transpiration, the plant closes its stomata openings. This can affect the rate and process of photosynthesis due to lack of sunlight. If any of the process goes wrong or disturbed this affects the plant health that is why it is said that even plants have life .
