After the pollution from the economic Revolution started affecting trees, most of the collected peppered moths were of the dark form. They were eaten by birds more and more, while the rare dark colored moths blended in better on the darker trees.

During the economic revolution with a rise within the burning of coal and production of soot, the black sort of the peppered moth was dominant. survival favored the black form in an environment that was polluted.
With cleaner methods of burning coal and therefore the use of other sorts of energy, the pollution levels decreased. The black form was not favored, and therefore the population of the black form decreased back to the amount seen before the economic revolution.This shows that survival will favor some existing variations within a species over other variations.
However while survival works this is often not evidence for Darwinian evolution. Both the black and white variations existed both before, during and after the economic revolution. No new variations were created by survival . survival can only select from what exists. survival can cause extinction but not new forms therefore the peppered moths show survival but not evidence for Darwinian evolution.
