How can you help in reducing the problem of waste disposal? Give any two methods.

Explanation

Solution

Waste is defined as any unnecessary material remains after the use of that material. Waste disposal is a process of collecting, processing, recycling and composting of the waste produced by the human society.

Complete Answer:
- Waste can be classified on the basis of its source and composition. Waste material can be solid or can be liquid or can be any hazardous gas.
- The waste can be organic (straws, vegetables, etc), inorganic ( salt, etc.) or any mechanical or electrical waste.
- Waste is defined as any unnecessary material remaining after the use of that material.

Methods for Waste disposal:
1. Landfill: A landfill is a site of disposal of waste material by burial.
- It is the oldest method of waste disposal but it is also usable in modern days.
- Landfills must be open and available for the users every day such as the members of municipalities, commercial and construction companies, etc.
- In many areas residents of that area are also allowed to use the landfills.

2. Incineration: Incineration is a waste disposal method in which the solid waste is allowed to burn or combust so as to get converted into ash and some gaseous products.
- This method is used for treating the municipal waste, solid waste produced from other sources also such as from waste water treatment.
- The process of incineration reduces the weight of solid waste by 80-95%.
- But incineration can cause air pollution due to the gaseous pollutant released by burning the waste.
- Incineration is most commonly used in Japan as the land is more scarce there to prepare landfills.

Note: Proper disposal of waste is too important as proper disposal of waste leads to sustainable life. Waste disposal is also useful for the protection of the environment and health of the population. Because it can cause air and water pollution.
