Question: How can the human body be protected from infection?...

How can the human body be protected from infection?

Explanation

Solution

Infection is the invasion of the foreign particle in our body like bacteria, viruses or parasites. They enter the body and start carrying out their life processes. The infections can be both symptomatic or asymptomatic. Our body has a defence mechanism which helps in preventing the foreign particle from entering. The skin is the first line of defence followed by the immune system.

Complete answer:
Infections are mainly caused by four different kinds of agents- bacteria, virus, prion or fungus. These infections can be mild as well as deadly. Infections can be asymptomatic which means is not accompanied by any sort of physical symptoms. Some infections are symptomatic which is accompanied by fever, chills, body ache, rashes, swelling etc. The cause of the infections can only be identified clinically.

Our body has an inbuilt natural mechanism which prevents the foreign particles from entering the body. This defence system as follows-

  1. Skin- It is the first line of defence which prevents infections from entering.
  2. The tear, earwax, mucus which is present inside the nasal passage, alimentary canal, urinary tract, urine does not allow microorganisms to thrive and multiply.
  3. The White blood cells present in our body are the important cells which fight against the microorganisms. They secrete antibodies in response to the antigens/toxins secreted by the microorganisms. They kill the microorganism through phagocytosis.

So, our body itself is self-sufficient to fight infections.

Note: When the defence mechanism of the body fails, then the patient shows symptoms and signs of infection. The person has to be further identified for the cause of infection and be treated clinically by administering certain drugs and antibiotics.
