Question: How can friction be reduced?...

How can friction be reduced?

Explanation

Solution

We all played using marbles and balls. Have you ever wondered why when you roll these marbles and balls they move to some extent and stop after moving at some part? They stop due to a force called friction acting upon it.

Complete answer:
The resistance encountered by the surface or by an object as it passes over the other is known as friction. As two surfaces pass together, friction is defined as the resistance given by both surfaces. For starters, it goes up to a certain distance when a ball is thrown and stops. An external force acts on the ball and it ends. This outer surface is known as friction.
Some of the examples are: Frame and door sliding against each other, chair pulled over the floor, rubbing of hands together to generate heat.
Following are the different methods that can be used to reduce the friction:
1. The shape of their body is streamlined to decrease the pressure within the body of the objects as the fluid for objects that travel in fluids such as vessels, ships, vehicles, etc.
2. Through polishing the surface, polishing makes the surface shiny and friction can be minimized.
3. The friction between the surfaces can be minimized by using lubricants like oil or grease.
4. The tension between the rolled material and the floor can be minimized by using ball bearings as objects are rolled over the surface.

Note: It is important to consider how two metal surfaces communicate with each other inside a machine. There is a degree of surface roughness in all metal surfaces. Regardless of how smooth a surface can look, there are high points and low valleys on each metal surface. The high points are called aspersions of the surface. It is the asperities on one surface that come into contact with the asperities on the other surface when the two surfaces pass past each other.
