There are different types of crops like kharif crops, rabi crops, zaid crops. These crops provide us with food for our daily body energy requirements. Food from plants is the primary need of humans. Food crops are the crops that are grown to feed the human population. There are a number of food crops which are grown in the country. They are rice, wheat, millet, maize, sugarcane, groundnuts, peas, cotton seed oil, pulses.
a) Pulses like gram, lentils provide proteins which are essential for bodybuilding.
b) Mustards provide us with fats for energy.
c) Fibre crops like cotton, jute and hemp for textiles.
d) Ornamental crops like dogwood for landscape gardening.
Apart from this it is the only mode of income for farmers who completely depend on agriculture. Thus we can say that it is the main source of income for many.
Note:
Crops need various nutrients to grow properly which varies from crop to crop and also the nutrients in the soil may not be enough to provide overall nutrition to the growing crops. Therefore manures and compost must be added to the soil to increase its nutrient value and also to provide nourishment for the crops.
