Host of red rot disease is
a) Wheat
b) Potato
c)Banana
d) Sugarcane

Explanation

Solution

Hint:- Infectious plant diseases are caused by pathogenic organisms such as a fungus, bacterium, mycoplasma, virus, viroid, nematode, or parasite flowering plant. In nature, plants may be affected more than one disease causing agent at a time.

Complete step-by-step solution:-
Red rot is the oldest known disease. It occurs in the cane growing industries. Diagnostic symptoms can best be observed by splitting the stalk lengthwise. The infected tissues have a dull red colour interrupted by occasional whitish patches across the stalk. This disease is caused by the fungus Glomerella tucumanensis. So, from above discussion, it can be concluded that the host of red rot is sugarcane.
Correct option is D.

Additional Information:-
It is a very serious disease of sugarcane. It was first described in 1893. Since then it has been found to cause epiphysitis in different countries. The surest symptom of the disease is the reddening of the internal internodal tissues with crossbars of white patches in the reddened area. Symptoms are that show large red blotches on the outside and internal red rots with white patches , when the stems are cut open.

Note:- Red colour is caused by a dye which is secreted by the host and is antagonistic to the red rot fungus. Infection takes place through mother setts, holes in the nodal regions, the cut ends of the seed canes and other injuries. The disease causes damage to the sugarcane drop mainly by reducing the crop stands and by reducing the sucrose content of cane juice. Therefore, use of resistant free verities must be recommended.
