The species originated in Africa and spread as far as India, China and Java. It walked erect over long legs, height 1.5-1.79 mt, brain size (cranial capacity) 775−1225 cm3, prognathus face with prominent brow ridges, no chinn, massive jaws and larger teeth. Use of tools made up of bones and stones, fire, acheulean hand axes and some primitive type of speech had developed.
