Solution
Flower is defined as a modified condensed shoot meant essentially for the reproduction of the plant. They contain the reproductive organs called as androecium and gynoecium that are responsible for the formation of the flower. Hibiscus is a common species that is found all over the world.
Complete answer-
Flower is a characteristic of angiosperms, is a complex unit consisting of those parts which contributes to the process of reproduction. Morphologically, it represents a short, compact, specialized branch of limited growth which bears floral leaves to carry out sexual reproduction. A flower consists of four whorls of floral leaves, of which calyx and corolla are sterile, non- essential accessory whorls while androecium and gynoecium are fertile, essential reproductive whorls.
They are of two types:
1. Unisexual flowers are those flowers that possesses either the stamen or carpel in a flower. These flowers do not contain both the gametes in a single flower. They are present in different flowers. These plants usually reproduce by cross- pollination.
2. Bisexual flowers are those flower that possesses both, androecium and gynoecium in a single flower. These kinds of flowers contain both the gamete in a single flower. As a single flower contains both the gamete , so they do not have to travel to other flowers for pollination so, self- pollination takes place in them for the production of the offspring.
Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. They are generally large, showy flowers and are also called as rose mallow. The leaves of them are generally alternate, ovate to lanceolate, often toothed or lobed. The flowers are large, conspicuous, five or more petals, colour from white to pink, red, blue. They contains the gamete in the different flowers, thus are unisexual.
