Giving two reasons explain why there is more species of biodiversity in tropical latitudes than in temperate ones.

Explanation

Solution

Biodiversity is defined as the variations among living organisms that are found in different ecosystems, such as in terrestrial or aquatic habitat. The biodiversity can be seen among different species or within the organisms of the same species of the ecosystems.

Complete answer: Diversity in species is defined as the number of species present in a given area or community. It is seen that there is more biodiversity in the tropical latitudes than in the temperate ones. Tropical regions are the regions of the earth that are present at nearly the middle of the Earth (near equator). On the other hand, temperate latitudes are present between the sub-tropics and the poles. The reasons for more biodiversity of species in the tropical regions are explained here.
First of all, the ecosystem of the tropical regions is very stable. The temperature, climate and suitable reproductive environment in the tropical forests make them appropriate for different species to flourish. Stability of the tropical climate could be seen from the fact that this region has undergone very less changes that provides it stability, whereas the temperate region has gone through many massive calamities. Moreover, the climate in the tropical region is more predictable and constant that provides a suitable environment for more diversity in the species. On the other hand, there is a great change between summer and winter seasons in the temperate region (less stable).
Second reason is, as mentioned above, the tropical region lies close to the equator and thus gets more solar energy as compared to the temperate regions. This leads to higher productivity and greater diversity.

Note: The part included in the tropics is the equator and some parts of North America, South America, Asia, Africa and Australia.
As understood by the word ‘temperate’, the temperate region has a moderate temperature and lies far from the equator. The temperate region includes most of the countries of Europe, and some portion of China, Australia, North Korea, Japan, etc.
