Question

Biology Question on cellular respiration

Given below are two statements, one is labelled as Assertion A and the other is labelled as Reason R

Assertion (A) : Respiration involving proteins as respiratory substrate is called floating respiration.

Reason (R) : Respiration involving carbohydrates and fats as respiratory substrate is called protoplasmic respiration.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below

A

If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion

C

If assertion is true but reason is false

D

If both assertion and reason are false

Answer

If both assertion and reason are false

Explanation

Solution

Respiration involving proteins as respiratory substrate is called protoplasmic respiration whereas floating respiration is the respiration which uses carbohydrates and fats as respiration substrates. Protoplasmic respiration cannot be continued for long as it depletes protoplasm of structural and functional proteins as well as liberates toxic ammonia.
