Question
Physics Question on Elastic and inelastic collisions
Given below are two statements, one is labelled as Assertion A and the other is labelled as Reason R
Assertion (A) : In an elastic collision between two bodies, the relative speed of the bodies after collision is equal to the relative speed before the collision.
Reason (R) : In an elastic collision, the linear momentum of the system is conserved.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below
If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is correct explanation of Assertion.
If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.
If Assertion is true but Reason is false.
If both Assertion and Reason are false.
If both Assertion and Reason are false.
Solution
Assertion is false and reason is true because for e=1, velocity of separation equals the velocity of approach but these are not relative manner.
