Question
Chemistry Question on States of matter
Given below are two statements, one is labelled as Assertion A and the other is labelled as Reason R
Assertion (A): On cooling, ammonia liquifies first whereas CO2 requires more cooling.
Reason (R): Critical temperatures of ammonia and carbon dioxide are 405.5K and 304.10K respectively.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below
If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
If assertion is true but reason is false.
If both assertion and reason are false.
If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
Solution
For liquification, critical temperature is checked. critical temperature is defined as the temperature above which gas cannot be liquified no matter how much the pressure is increased. for Ammonia, critical temperature is 405.5K and for CO2 the critical temperature is 304⋅10K critical temperature of Ammonia is greater than critical temperature of CO2 ∴ on coding Ammonia liquifies first whereas CO2 requires more cooling
