Question
Physics Question on work, energy and power
Given below are two statements, one is labelled as Assertion A and the other is labelled as Reason R
Assertion (A): Frictional forces are conservative forces.
Reason (R): Potential energy can be associated with frictional forces.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below
If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion
If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion
If assertion is true but reason is false
If both assertion and reason are false
If both assertion and reason are false
Solution
Forces that cannot be attributed to the energy content of any body are called as non conservative forces. Friction cannot be attributed to the energy content in any body. Thus A is wrong. Also the potential energy is the energy by virtue of its position under gravity or any force field. It is a conservative force and cannot be associated with frictional forces. Thus the second statement is also wrong.
