The allele that is suppressed is known as the recessive allele. The expression of this recessive allele is masked by the presence of the dominant allele and thus the offsprings will most probably carry the traits that were transferred from the dominant allele while the traits that were transferred from the recessive allele will be shown in the second filial generation or after several generations. Its genetic code does not have the tendency to produce a phenotype when the dominant allele is present. If a person is having a certain trait then it must be that the person must contain the two alleles of the same trait from both the two parents.

There are two types of Epistasis: Recessive epistasis and Dominant epistasis.
