As plants are rooted to the ground, they rely on others to move their pollen for them. Their one of the sources for this process are bats and this process is known as chiropterophily. A bat flies to a plant to eat insects and drink potion from the flowers. Pollen sticks to the hairs on their body. As bats fly to another plant for more food they transfer the pollen to another plant. More than hundreds of species of plants depend on bats for pollination including mango, guava, banana and durian. Plants rely on bats to pollinate their flowers whereas bats rely on them for fruits and flowers. Bat pollination increases the resistance of plants to disease and pests and assists in reproduction. Unlike bees, butterflies and other pollinators, bats show up at night and they don’t get enough credit for their work. However they are highly effective animals and can fly like wind. They carry an enormous amount of pollen on their body.

Note: In warm climates, bats are important pollinators. As pollination is only part of their work, they also eat hundreds of harmful mosquitoes, beetles and other pests from plants. They are attracted to large flowers, highly fragrant bloom with fruity aroma.
