Question
Question: Give the names of bisexual animals....
Give the names of bisexual animals.
Solution
Organisms which having male and female reproductive organs in same individual are known as bisexual organism or hermaphrodites. Examples are earthworms, leech, starfish, whale, tapeworm, etc.
Complete answer:
Reproduction is a very important process for the continuous development and advancement in the species. Reproduction can be divided into asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction. In sexual reproduction organisms have male and female reproductive organs which produce their gametes and fertilization of these gametes results in new individuals.
In asexual reproduction. There is no need for two individuals, only one parent can give rise to new individuals, for example, budding, fragmentation, etc.
Thus, individuals having male and female reproductive systems in different individuals are called as unisexual organisms. They contain only one sexuality. Example, humans, birds, reptiles, etc. But there are some species or individuals which have both male and female reproductive systems, such organisms are known as bisexual organisms.
Many species of non-human animals are involved in the forming relationships or sexual acts between the organism having same sexuality, even they get a chance to breed with opposite sexuality. Examples of such bisexual animals are gazelles, antelope, bison, sage grouse, etc.
Note: Mammals having bisexual sex preferences are bonobo, orca, bottlenose dolphin, penguins, etc. Homosexual intercourse is common in some animals in seasonal bases like male walruses, which turn to homosexual breeding during non-seasonal breeding and in seasonal breeding it turns back to heterosexual breeding.
