Give reason.
Urine is slightly thicker in summer than in winter?
Solution
Nephron is the basic structural and functional unit of the kidney. Nephrons of the kidney help in urine formation and are involved in the processing of blood. It filters the blood and removes wastes through the urine.
Complete answer:
Urine is the waste byproduct that is formed from excess water and metabolic waste molecules, by the method of renal system filtration. The management of the blood volume along with plasma osmolarity is the primary function of the renal system, and the removal of waste via urine is an easy way that the body performs. The urine in the summer season is thicker as the absorption of water is more by the kidney in this season than the absorption of water during the winter season because the loss of water by the process of perspiration is more in the summer season. Thus the urine secreted in the summer season is thicker and more concentrated in comparison to the urine secreted in the winter season. It is also observed that in summers the water loss is more due to the secretion of sweat and to maintain water balance the kidneys absorb more water resulting in the excretion of urine which is found to be more concentrated.
The healthy kidneys filter about a half cup of blood every moment, eliminating wastes and additional water to make urine. Our blood circulates through our kidneys frequently. In a single day, our kidneys filter around 150 quarts of blood. Most of the water and other substances that filter through our glomeruli are returned to your blood by the tubules. Only just 1 to 2 quarts become urine.
Note:
Urine formation undergoes three processes: Filtration, Reabsorption, and Secretion. Filtration involves the transfer of soluble components, like water and waste, from the blood into the glomerulus. Secretion involves the transfer of hydrogen ions, creatinine, drugs, and urea from the blood into the collecting duct, and is primarily made from water.
