Give an example of an element or substance that does not corrode?

Explanation

Solution

As we all have heard about the process known as corrosion. Corrosion mainly occurs when the substance is exposed and it comes in contact with the air, water or water vapor or you can say moist air. Corrosion is sometimes called rusting in the case of iron objects.

Complete answer:
Let’s completely understand about the process called corrosion. It is the process of decay of a substance which is caused due to its chemical reaction in the environment. Corrosion occurs when the surface of a substance, mainly metal, is exposed to the environment i.e. it comes in contact with the air, water or moist air. The metals like iron and steel undergo corrosion and this process is accelerated when they are exposed to warm temperature, acids and salts.
The most common example of corrosion is seen in iron objects when they are exposed to oxygen in air and water or water vapor due to which they form an iron oxide called as rust. Corrosion can happen to metal like steel when they are placed under too much stress causing material to crack.
An example of an element or substance that does not corrode is stainless steel. Stainless steel is an alloy of iron, chromium and nickel. Therefore, it acts as a rust resistant substance. There is also another example of non-corrosive metal i.e. Aluminium.

Note:
Corrosion can be prevented by several methods. Galvanization is one of the methods to prevent corrosion. Corrosion can be prevented by using drying agents, by keeping the surface of the metal clean and dry.
