Biology Question on biological classification
Fungi are classified on the basis of
sexual reproduction
asexual reproduction
vegetative reproduction
None of the above
sexual reproduction
Solution
Fungi are classified primarily on the basis of particularly life cycle involved, ie, sexual reproduction. Characteristics of the sexual spores and fruiting bodies are mainly considered. However, many fungi do not produce sexual pores and are classified on the basis of their asexual spores only. Asexual reproduction is the method of reproduction which to not involve the union of nuclei, sex cells or sex organs. Vegetative reproduction includes all those methods of propagation of species, where portion(s) of the plant body separate from parent plant to give rise to new individuals without any apparent changes in the genetic constitution.
