From where does the Passage of sperm take place in male reproductive system?

Explanation

Solution

The primary sex organ are testes on males and ovary in females. Besides producing gametes they also secrete sex hormones. The growth of gonads, their maintenance and functions are regulated by gonadotropic of the anterior lobe of pituitary.

Complete answer:
The pathway of sperm production is-
The testes are where sperm are produced, specifically in the scrotum. It is protruding out of the abdominal part of the body, because sperm requires little lesser temperature than normal body temperature for its production.

The sperms in seminiferous tubules which, units to form several straight tubules, called as rete testis are carried out with the help of vasa efferentia to epididymis. Epididymis is a coiled structure present behind each testis.

It receives the immature Sperms and stores it here temporarily. When ejaculation occurs, these sperms are forcefully expelled out from epididymis, into vas deferens. The vas deferens ascends into the abdomen, passing over the urinary bladder.

It receives the seminal vesicle behind the urinary bladder and forms an ejaculatory duct. The final portion then passes to the prostate gland to open into the urethra shortly after its origin from the bladder.

Additional information: Spermatogenesis starts at the age of puberty due to significant increase in the secretion of gonadotropin releasing hormones (GnRH) from hypothalamus. The increase in GnRH acts at the anterior pituitary gland which further acts on FSH and LH.

Note: Cremaster muscles and dartos contract of the scrotal sac help in the positioning of testes. Although male ejaculate around 200-300millions sperm, very few of them reach the site of fertilisation. Most sperms get killed in the acidic environment of the female reproductive tract. So many sperms are needed to increase the livelihood of fertilisation.
