Question
Mathematics Question on Various Forms of the Equation of a Line
Find the equation of the line which passes through the points (-1, 1) and (2, -4).
Answer
It is known that the equation of the line passing through points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) is y−y1=x2−x1y2−y1(x−x1)
Therefore, the equation of the line passing through the points (-1, 1) and (2, -4) is
y−1=2+1−4−1(x+1)
y–1=3−5(x+1)
3(y–1)=(−5)(x+1)
3y–3=−5x–5
3y–3+5x+5=0
i.e,5x+3y+2=0
