Question

Mathematics Question on Volume of a Sphere

Find the amount of water displaced by a solid spherical ball of diameter.
(i) 28 cm
(ii) 0.21 m

Answer

(i) Radius of the ball, r = 282\frac{28}{2} cm = 14cm
volume of the ball = 43πr3\frac{4}{3}\pi r^3
= 43×227\frac{4}{3} ×\frac{ 22}{7} ×14× 14 cm ×14× 14 cm ×14× 14 cm

=344963= \frac{34496}{3} cm3
= 11498.66 cm3

(ii) Radius of the ball, r =0.212\frac{0.21}{2} m = 0.105 m
volume of a ball = 43πr3\frac{4}{3}\pi r^3
= 43×227\frac{4}{3} ×\frac{ 22}{7} ×0.105× 0.105 m ×0.105× 0.105 m ×0.105× 0.105 m
= 0.004851 m3
