Oogenesis-initially in the ovaries mature female gamete is formed by the process called oogenesis. First oogonia undergoes mitotic differentiation producing primary oocyte in the fetal life. Then primary oocyte after the first meiotic division formation of secondary oocyte occurs during the period of birth, childhood and puberty. It remains in the secondary oocyte during this time and first polar body formation occurs. During the adult reproductive life formation of the ovum and second polar body takes place. The primary oocyte is surrounded by granulosa cells which is called primary follicle. Similarly secondary oocytes surrounded by granulosa cells are called secondary follicle. Secondary follicle the matures into tertiary follicle. Then this follicle further changes into mature or Graafian follicle.
