Fill in the blanks of the following statements.
(A) To draw water from a well we have to __________ the rope.
(B) A charged body ____________ an uncharged body towards it.
(C) To move a loaded trolley we have to ___________ it.
(D) The north pole of a magnet _______________ the north pole of another magnet.
Solution
Hint
(Part-A) In this question, the concept of the force is used, that is we should be aware about the push or pull of the object, that is when we apply push or when we will apply push. In this question, apply the above situation in a real life scenario.
(Part-B) In this question the concept of the charge body is that the charge distribution of an uncharged body is neutral.
(Part-C) When we are moving some object we apply force. This force can be push or pull.
(Part-D) Take two magnets and do this activity of bringing them closer. Before that, be aware of the North pole and the South pole of the magnets.
Complete step by step answer
(Part-A) In order to draw out water from well we need to apply a pulling force on the rope which is connected to the container that will contain the water. This is because if we apply a push force it will make the container go more down rather than coming up. Hence we have to apply a pull force in order to overcome the weight of the container containing water.
(Part-B) A charged body attracts an uncharged body towards it. An uncharged body does not mean that there are no charges on the body. It means that the charges are present on it but are balanced or neutralised. So as soon as a charged body is positively charged or negatively charged is brought near an uncharged body, due to induction the positive charges and the negative charges on the uncharged object get aligned with respect to the charge present on the charged body. Hence accordingly it experiences an attractive force.
(Part-C) To be able to move a loaded trolley we have to either pull it or push it. In other words either we apply a push force or a pull force. In the language of science, a pull is something applied in the direction opposite to the direction of motion whereas a push is something which is applied in the direction of motion of the object.
(Part-D) The North pole of a magnet repels the north pole of another magnet. If we take the magnets we see that like poles of a magnet repel each other. The reason is because when the two magnets of like poles are kept facing each other, the lines of forces are in opposite directions. So the poles repel each other. When the unlike poles of a bar magnet face each other the magnetic lines of force are in the same direction and hence unlike poles attract each other.
Note
Pull and push are two ways to apply force on a body. During push one component of force is downward and it increases the normal force. More force is needed when we are pushing an object. If the pulling scenario is reversed as we are pulling something then it will decrease the normal force and also decrease friction if applicable.
There are two nature of force between 2 charged particles. If the same nature’s charges are there then they will repel each other. If different nature’s charges are there then they will attract each other.
