The National Botanic Garden, Lucknow — set up in 1953 under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) — is one of the head plant based exploration associations in India. In the past known as National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), the NBRI was renamed in 1978 in the current structure.

In the interim, various laborers started concentrating on different cryptogams, investigation of Algae under Dr. P. N. Srivastava, Fungi under Mr. R. N. Ghosh, Bryophytes under Dr. K. P.
