The term poultry is applied to the rearing of a wide variety of several species of birds like chicken, turkeys, ducks, fowls, pigeons emu, etc. In India, it is mainly related to birds and chickens.

There is different terminology related to the management in poultry-
- Prolapse: falling down of the uterus containing eggs is called prolapse. Sometimes the entire oviduct can be seen as Red mass. a diet containing more fat and less fiber and oversize of eggs are responsible for the prolapse.
- Deworming: It is the process of treatment of the sick birds from the intestinal parasites. 1st Deworming is necessary at 8th week, 2nd at 16 to 17 weeks, and for every 8 weeks then onwards.
- Cannibalism: Results from continued packing of the exposed cloaca of a bird by the other bird in a flock. It is also called vent packing. protein deficiency, high energy diet affect our reason for cannibalism.
- Dubbing: It is the process occurring in the poultry birds that includes pruning of combs and wattles.

- In comparison with rearing or raising poultry, farming requires minimum investment.
