Question: Explain the function of the coronary artery....

Explain the function of the coronary artery.

Explanation

Solution

The coronary arteries start from the right and left main coronary arteries. They exit the ascending aorta just above the aortic valve (coronary Ostia). The two branches subdivide and the way over the surface of the heart (epicardium) as they cross away from the aorta.

Complete Answer:
There are two main coronary arteries. They are the left main and right coronary arteries.
1. Left main coronary artery: The left main coronary artery transfers blood to the left side of the heart muscle (that is to the left ventricle and left atrium). The left main coronary divides into two branches, they are
- The left anterior descending artery branches of the left coronary artery and they supply blood to the front of the left side of the heart.
- The circumflex artery branches in the other one of the left coronary artery and encircles the heart muscle. This artery supplies blood to the outer side of the heart and the backside also.

2. Right coronary artery: The right coronary artery passes blood to the right ventricle. The right atrium, and the sinoatrial (SA), and atrioventricular (AV) nodes regulate the heart rhythm.
- The right coronary artery divides into smaller branches. It includes the right posterior descending artery and the acute marginal artery. Collectively with the left anterior descending artery, the right coronary artery helps in supplying the blood to the middle or septum of the heart.
- More oxygen is needed for the heart when it starts working hard. For example when one starts to exercise their heart rate and blood pressure increase which in turn increases the heart's demand for oxygen. The main way to increase the oxygen supply to the heart is to boost the blood flow through the coronary arteries. The heat increases the blood flow by dilating the coronary arteries.

Note: Coronary arteries supply blood to the heart muscle. The heart muscle needs oxygen-rich blood to function properly. The oxygen-depleted blood must also be carried away from the heart. The coronary arteries enfold around the outside of the heart. Small branches are present in the heart muscle to bring it blood.
