Question: Explain the disadvantages of large family size....
Explain the disadvantages of large family size.
Solution
Large family size will ultimately cause issues related to overpopulation as in large family size, the number of family members are more and the resources to sustain them are insufficient.
Complete Answer:
The various disadvantages of large family size are:
- The foremost issue is the lack of basic amenities like proper food, clothes, shelter, etc. It leads to malnutrition and other deficiency diseases.
- The financial condition of such families is not very good and they eventually create an economical burden on society and the nation. Due to insufficient money, the children of such families indulge in child labor and miss their education.
- There are very few employment opportunities and the severe economic crunch eventually increases population.
- The parents are not able to give their proper attention to each child and all the social unrest, unemployment, and no education makes the child alcoholic and leads them to drug abuse.
So it is important to create awareness among people about this and they should be told about the benefits of small families. Awareness of problems due to uncontrolled population growth should be created.
Educating people, especially fertile couples and those in marriageable age groups about available birth control pills, equal importance to male and female children, etc. would address the importance of bringing socially conscious families of desired sizes.
Note: India was among the first countries in the world to initiate action plans and programs at national level for attaining reproductive health as a social goal. These programs called “family planning” were initiated in 1951 and have been periodically assessed over the past decades.
