Symbionts either entirely depend on each other for survival or it can be optional when they generally live independently. Albert Bernhard Frank used the term symbiosis to show mutualistic relationships in lichens. When the organisms form a single body by physical attachment, this type of association is called conjunctive symbiosis. All other types of arrangements are disjunctive symbiosis.
