Estimate what part of the figures is coloured and hence find the per cent which is coloured
coloured wheels

Answer

(i) Here, 1 part out of 4 equal parts are shaded which represents the fraction 14\frac{1}{4}
first coloured wheel
14=14×100%\frac{1}{4}= \frac{1}{4}\times100\%

= 25%25\%


(ii) Here, 3 parts out of 5 equal parts are shaded which represents the fraction 35\frac{3}{5}
second coloured wheel
35=35×100%\frac{3}{5}=\frac{3}{5}\times100\%

= 60%60\%


(iii) Here, 3 parts out of 8 equal parts are shaded which represents the fraction 38\frac{3}{8}
third coloured wheel
38=38×100%\frac{3}{8}=\frac{3}{8}\times100\%

= 3008%\frac{300}{8}\%

= 37.5%37.5\%
