Question
Biology Question on cell cycle and cell division
During the meiotic division, the:
A
homologous chromosomes are separated
B
the linkage is disturbed
C
the homologous chromosomes do not segregate
D
all of the above
Answer
homologous chromosomes are separated
Explanation
Solution
Meiotic division occurs in reproductive or germ cells. Four haploid cells are produced after meiosis, which are not identical to their parent cell. In this division, homologous chromosomes forms bivalent by pairing during zygotene stage of prophase -I and during anaphase -I, homologous chromosomes of each bivalent start migrating towards opposite poles of the spindle, because of this separation of homologous chromosomes, each daughter cell receives a haploid group of segregated chromosomes.
