Draw a neat diagram of AC dynamo and label the parts.
Solution
First draw the diagram of an AC dynamo and then label the parts of the dynamo. Then discuss how the AC dynamo works on the principle of faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction. From the diagram explain how the Armature Coil rotates in the magnetic field which induces alternating current in the wire.
Complete step by step solution:
The diagram of the AC dynamo can be drawn as,
Figure: Diagram of an AC dynamo
In the above diagram, we can see an AC dynamo which consists of two permanent magnets (south and north) to create a uniform magnetic field. There is a rectangular shape coil which is known as armature.
This armature is connected to two slip rings R1 and R2.These slip rings are connected to carbon brushes. The armature is rotating about an axis which is perpendicular to the magnetic field.
The main work of this generator is to convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy which is known as alternating current. It changes the magnetic flux passing through the coil due to which the current is induced in the coil. Slip rings are used to maintain the continuous flow of current and carbon brushes are used to avoid the spark.
We can draw the graph of alternating current, which is produced in the generator as,
Note:
AC dynamo mainly depends on the rate of change in the amount of flux. The angle between the coil and the magnetic field changes as the rectangular coils rotate continuously which lead to produce alternating current.
