Question
Question: Does gender come from mom or dad?...
Does gender come from mom or dad?
Solution
Each and every cell in the human body consists of 23 pairs of chromosomes i.e a total of 46 numbers of chromosomes are present in humans. In which half of the chromosome comes from the mother and the other half comes from the father. The X chromosome and Y chromosome determine our sex as male or female when we are born and thus they are also known as sex chromosomes.
Complete answer:
After fertilization or fusion of an egg and sperm, zygote is formed which contains 22 pairs of autosomes and 1 pair of sex chromosomes which determines the sex of the baby. These 22 autosomes are exactly the same in both males and females. In females a pair of X chromosomes are present and in males XY chromosome is present as a sex chromosome. During spermatogenesis in males, two different types of gametes are produced. 50 percent of the total sperm contains X chromosome while the rest 50 percent of the sperm contains Y chromosome. However, the female produces only a single type of gamete which contains the X chromosome.
There is an equal probability of fertilization of the ovum with sperm carrying either an X or Y chromosome. In case, when the ovum fertilized with the sperm carrying X chromosome the zygote develops into female and when the ovum fertilized with the sperm carrying Y chromosome zygote develops into male offspring. Thus the sex of the child is determined by the sperm produced by males.
So the gender is determined or gender comes from dad.
Note:
In human the sex determination mechanism is designated to be the example of male heterogamety. Heterogamety means the ability to produce different types of gametes. In human males, two types of gametes are produced, some gametes contain X chromosome and the other gametes contain Y chromosome.
