Question
Question: Do arteries carry blood to the heart?...
Do arteries carry blood to the heart?
Solution
The heart is the most hardworking organ in the human body. Located almost in the center of the chest and slightly tilted towards the left. The size of a healthy adult human heart is approximately the size of a clenched adult fist. By the time a human is 70, the heart beats more than 2.5 billion times. The heart is continuously working. The amount of blood which it pumps per day is about 2,000 gallons.
Complete solution:
The heart is a large organ made up of cardiac muscles that pumps oxygenated blood and along with nutrients through the blood vessels towards the body tissues.
It's made up of: 4 chambers, the 2 upper chambers are called the atria. The function of atria is to receive and collect blood. The two lower chambers of the heart are called the ventricles. The function of ventricles is to pump blood to other parts of your body.
Working of heart: Firstly the right atrium receives blood from the body which has low oxygen content. This blood comes from the veins.
Now the blood is pumped by the right ventricle which comes from the right atrium into the lungs to become oxygenated and remove CO2.
Now the left atrium receives blood from the lungs which are rich in oxygen.
Now the blood reaches to The left ventricle which pumps the blood out to supply to all the organs with oxygen-rich blood.
There are 4 valves involved in this process which are 1. Aortic, 2. Pulmonary 3. Mitral 4. Tricuspid valves prevent the backward flow and help the blood in moving forward.
Blood vessels involved in heart function: Arteries and veins
An artery carries blood away from the heart, and a vein carries blood into the heart. These blood vessels are essential for transportation of the blood.
Cardiovascular system is made up of the heart and all the blood vessels associated with it. The vessels have complex networks and vary structure and function.
Note:
There are three types of arteries present: 1. Elastic arteries: These vessels are larger in size and coming out of the heart. For example, pulmonary artery and the aorta. The main which carries blood away from. The heart is aorta. 2. Muscular arteries: The blood coming from Elastic arteries goes into muscular arteries, for example femoral or coronary arteries. Arterioles: These are the smallest arteries and help in distributing blood coming from the larger arteries with the help of a network of capillaries.
