Perisperm is the nutritive tissue derived from the nucellus that surrounds the embryo of seed in some angiosperm. Seeds in which both endosperm, as well as perisperm, are present are commonly called as albuminous or in which neither endosperm nor perisperm exists are termed as exalbuminous or ex endospermic. The solitary seed has no perisperm or albumen but has two large cotyledons concealing the plumule. Germination is slow when there is a storage of food available in the perisperm or in the endosperm or in the embryo itself.
