When solute is added in the solvent, solution is formed. The compound which is added is called a solute and the compound in which the solute is added is called the solvent. Both Solute and solvent combine to form a solution.
Saturated solution is defined as the solution where no more solute can be added to the solvent once the equilibrium is reached. This means that the solution is in equilibrium with the solute particles.
Example of saturated solution: Beverages or carbonated drinks, dissolving of sugar in water, soil existing in the earth surface.
Unsaturated solution is defined as the solution where more solute can be added to the solvent even after the equilibrium is reached. This means that the solution is not in equilibrium with the solute particles.
Example of unsaturated solution: Salt solution or sugar solution, when the amount of sugar or salt is below the saturation point, iced coffee.
Note: The solubility of the ionic compound to form the solution increases when the temperature is increased except the mixtures formed of the molecules which have anions. The solution is called saturated when the crystallization rate is equal to the solubility rate.
